I've been reading this clover discussion with interest. We have clover--lots of it--but it seems fairly well behaved and, truthfully, looks better that the grass. Guess if we're going to have a lawn, it ought to be green.

I don't really mind a little clover in the lawn or popping up occasionally in a bed. But like Donna, I am inundated with it in my beds this year. It has to be pulled at the base because clover deliberately grows sideways so that, if pulled out by its leaves, the root stays - and regrows. Now the maple samaras, millions of 'em, are germinating anywhere they can get a foothold. Maybe I shouldn't bother w a planted garden, just grow a garden of clover and maple seedlings. Easy enough. There you go, Jim. Clover as a groundcover. I must admit I mow around the clover because the honey bees like it so much, but then I do have a pasture cut short and not a lawn. After the clover has finished blooming I just mow it. I'm of the opinion that if it's green it's good. :o) I've been mowing around the larkspurs, too, because they are beautiful, and thedeer don't like them. zem ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2008 6:52 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] cloverWeed B Gone will take care of clover w/out hurting your grass, but itmight take more than one application. Clover can be tough. In the flower beds - all I can say is pull.
