Gene- just clarifying. I wasn't referring to what most people call pop-ups which are usually new windows. These are tags which pop when your mouse rolls over something, but then disappear when your mouse moves away. On photo sites, like Flicker, I have seen them called tags but I don't know what they are called on retail websites, so I referred to them as item pops. Eg: at Bluestone as you move your mouse to the search field, a tag appears telling you to enter an item code or plant name in the box. Well, that's what you had been attempting to do, but now you can't because the tag is in the way. It goes away quickly enough, but as you said - very annoying.

Kitty, If you do a search on Goggle for wildflowers or shade perennials, aspecific shade perennial, odds are I will be up in the top 10 or so results.Or, that is the way it has been in the past. We could get much better results if we paid for advertising on the search engines. Which we do not do. I do not use pop ups and probably never will. I find them to be very annoying and distracting. Figure I am just human enough that if I do not like them, there may be others that do not. No advertisers on my site either. Just you and me. -----Original Message-----From: owner-gardenchat@hort.net [o*@hort.net] On BehalfOf Kitty Sent: Friday, June 05, 2009 6:55 PM To: gardenchat@hort.net Subject: Re: [CHAT] Nursery Home Page I see why this is so important, Gene. Some m-o nurseries are moving away from paper catalogs. Seneca Hill for one. I've always enjoyed her site. But if online is all you have and there's so much competition out there, I would think search engines would be a priority. What about the new Bing? I'm a Google fan myself. But, however folks get there, you're right the site's got to look good and be easy to navigate. You asked for positive things, but I'd also like tomention a negative. Something I despise are tags and item pops. A few areuseful, but most times they just really get in the way. I'll be moving mycursor over an item that's close to another and an enlargemnet pops up so Ican't see what I was reading. Very disconcerting. Some are handy I suppose, just don't overdo it. Tony Avent's sense of humor probably helps too w/ his descriptions and comments. But there have been sites in past I tried to use that were too difficult or annoying to use and as such I do not do business w/ those companies. If you make it too hard for me to place an order in 5 minutes or less, I'm outta there. Lee Valley Tools is another one I find easy to use and well organized.
