It’s been pretty wet here all spring. I know I don’t have it as bad as some of you; most things are doing fine here, some flourishing with the extra moisture.

But I was cleaning out the yellowing daf & colchicum leaves and found that several clumps of Asarum europeaum, European Ginger, had rotted. Too wet, too shady, too crowded perhaps. That’s ok, I have lots of it.  I had noticed the Heuchera Caramel was sparse this year and expected it to fill in, but it wasn’t.  I lifted one longish extension and the whole plant came up! Almost no roots and lots of rot throughout most of the stems, even though it was leafing out in places and even had a couple of flower stems.

That’s ok, I’ve had it for many years but I just hate pitching something with some healthy bits still in it.  I cut out and trimmed the healthy pieces, eliminating the rot and sulfur-powdering the cut ends. What roots there had been were left out with the rot. I’m placing the pieces in shallow strawberry containers and setting them in my shade house for now. We’ll see if any of them make it.

So, what are my chances? Anything else I should try?  How are the rest of you faring?
