bombax in bloom

donna has been kind enough to post three pictures i took of a local bombax [probably b. malabarcum, but who knows] in bloom. the bombax, a native of tropical asia is, oddly enough, deciduous. it blooms profusely at this time of year [before leafing out]. the flowers, which are borne in clusters, are 5" to 8" across and have that clear succulence of cactus and waterlily blooms.
