Jim,

   First, cut open the football.  Next, remove all air, stuffing, etc.
   Fill the football with water.  Once full, pour water out into measuring
   cup.  Record.

   :)

   So when you say a football, is an ellipsoid good enough?  Or do you 
   need to take into account the pointed ends?
