Pam, I'm happy for you and your rain guage...I really am. But the timing was
bad. My daughter and grandsons drove from Austin to St. Louis a week ago Sun
dodging the 100 or so tornadoes that were about and then drove home this past
Sun thru terrific rain storms esp. around the Ft. Worth area she said. I am
just now getting a little caught up from taking 2 days off to be with her in St.
Louis. We had absolutely perfect weather and really enjoyed the cherry trees
and millions of bulbs in bloom. Went to the fabulous zoo on Wed and spent Thurs
at Shaw's Gardens (Mo. Botanical) and had a picnic lunch at Tower Grove Park.
What a wonderful place! When I lived in St. Louis 35 years ago the Climatron
was just being built..now a dense jungle. The camellia house was truly
overwhelming..both scent and beauty!. They used Rex begonias and hundreds of pots of
cyclamen as underplantings. The many fountains were not turned on yet but
there were quite a number of people there enjoying the elegance and serenity of
the place...esp the Japanese garden. At the entrance building they were just
putting together an exhibit of Chihuly glass sculptures. There was a fabulous 20
ft tall one suspended from the ceiling in graduated shades of blue to white.
Would love to see the whole exhibit. All in all it was a welcome respite. And
of course a delight to be with my daughters and grandchildren. I thought of you
all and how much you would enjoy this garden..and the zoo, too. Kathy
