It may be cancer, won't know til he goes in and it is growing fast. It's a few inches long by a couple inches high and has a pocket of gas inside. A strong possibility is that it's wrapped around the intestines or vice versa and can't be removed or that if the mass can be removed it will set a lot of seed cancers which would be disastrous. It's not related to the heartworm, but wasn't easily detected a month ago (when HW was detected) because the mass (if it was there then) sort of pulls up to a hiding place. However, now it was easy to find because he'd lost more weight and when he's laid out flat for the xray, it comes down and is more easily seen.

I specifically asked about his strength level as to surviving surgery, and Dr thinks he'll be ok. Today he ate a whole slice of roast beef for breakfast and anoher for lunch. It's not a lot, but it is protein, and it is something. I just hope it's enough.
Thanks for your concern.
