Daylight saving

Anyone else catch the interview on CNN this AM with the guy who's studied the effects of DST and written a book about it? I only caught part of it--the part where he said it didn't save energy. All it did he said was increase retail sales. Apparently, with more daylight, people dawdle more on the way home from work and shop more. So it's good for the merchant class, just like moving Thanksgiving up a week was good for the merchant class. So, just as we've reduced security inspections of incoming cargo because Wal-Mart complained it reduced profits, so we've increased the effective shopping hours so Wal-Mart can sell evermore stuff. Amazing how democracy works.
