Heinlein worked for my kids. I would also suggest Isaac Asimov, Kayge Baker, Lois McMaster Bujold, Orson Scott Card "Ender's Game", Greg Bear "Blood Music" fascinating and kind of gross, Anne McCaffery the brainship series "The Ship Who Sang," Larry Niven, Arthur C. Clarke, look for Year's Best Sci-Fi collections. Be aware these are edgy, may warrant some prereading so you can discuss the social ideas. I was/am a voracious reader & tend to intenalize the story. Can be an issue at times. Judy B z 6 Idaho, feeling well, if tired today. I have lots of crocus in bloom & bulbs popping up all over. ----- Original Message ----- From: "james singer" <islandjim1@verizon.net>

Don't know how old or young you mean, but when I was about 14 or 15 I discovered Robert Heinlein's short story "The Green Hills of Earth" in the Saturday Evening Post and was immediately sucked into the world of science fiction. On Mar 5, 2008, at 5:57 PM, Johnson Cyndi D Civ 95 CG/SCSRT wrote:This is totally non-gardening related. I'm looking for fiction for young adults - specifically, fiction that might get them interested in science or scientific concepts. Think kiddy astronomers or geologists or even medical research, I'm not picky. Could be science fiction too. Any ideas?
