Don't know how old or young you mean, but when I was about 14 or 15 I discovered Robert Heinlein's short story "The Green Hills of Earth" in the Saturday Evening Post and was immediately sucked into the world of science fiction.

This is totally non-gardening related. I'm looking for fiction for young adults - specifically, fiction that might get them interested in scienceor scientific concepts. Think kiddy astronomers or geologists or even medical research, I'm not picky. Could be science fiction too. Any ideas?
