Yep. I used to pick the worms off my tomato vines and put them in a coffee can, and when I figured I'd gotten them all for that day, I'd dump the can in the chicken yard. The older hens would go nuts, grabbing them and running off to eat by themselves.

Always very amusing to give one of those big tomato hornworms to chickens. Experienced hens will grab it instantly but the younger onesdon't know what to do. Sometimes they'll all stand around pecking at itvery hesitantly and the worm may actually get the chance to move off. Finally one hen will grab it and shake it so it comes apart (eeeuuuuwwww) and then they all pile on. After the first couple they figure out it's good eatin'. They like even water and I find the mulch and newspapers help to keep them watered. If you have trouble with cut worms cutting off your little plant you can wrap the newspaper up the stem a little. Well then...I'll just have to shop around and see what I can find. Thanks anyway tho. Getting ready to till up a big veggie garden. Price of food is so insane...figured I'd grow some this year. I have the land and the room - just need to do it. Problem with ME is...I get all artsy and creative about it. I want the cute fence around it, and an arbor over the entry, and a cool scarecrow, and some bird houses. Then my husband just shakes his head and says "too much work....I just do the tilling". sighhhhhhh But it's what I want! So I'll just have to do it! One day I'd like to havetime to go through theMaster Gardener program. I looked into here once, itwas years back, but the classes were all the way down in Los Angelesand so was thevolunteer time. That's an hour's drive. Now even if it were close Idon't have the time. But one day... I cleaned up the pond on Saturday, that went a lotfaster than Iexpected, and put the rest of my plants from HighCountry Garden inthe ground. Got some weeding done in the dry garden. There's sure a lotof grass in there, sigh...I made a couple clear spotsanyway. It got sowindy I couldn't stay out, too much dirt in myeyes. The tomatoes and peppers are coming up in thegreenhouse. Husband gota wild hair and decided that he could grow bettertomatoes in pots thanI can in the ground, and use much less water too. Sooff he went to buyhis own seeds. I'm encouraging this of coursealthough I think he isgrossly overestimating how much water one gardenbed actually uses, and he's going to get bored pretty quick measuringhow much water hepours into the pots. It will be interesting to see howit goes.Sunday started out very cold and raining and thengot extremelywindy. I dashed outside only once to put the horses intheir stalls. Even thedogs didn't want to go out there.
