It is pretty slow growing and doesn't get as tall as the Asian
varieties. It took almost 30 years for ours to reach a mature stand,

When I purchased my property 25 years ago there was a stand of native cane
.. bamboo.. here of decent size. It has now grown to double its original
size...I would not say that makes it exactly invasive. So, I would not be
too concerned about it taking over your back yard.
Spring is springing here...

It is the only bamboo native to north america. It is indigenous to
southern IL, and I have established it in my back yard (hoping that
the shady location and being at the northern end of its growing area,
would keep it under control. (Hope springs eternal!!)
