Re: trimmer/edgers/pole saws

Jim- is that a small chain saw type contraption?

I was using a small Remington chainsaw (a corded one) this am to cut a bunch of branches off of the 2 Aristocrat pear trees on the side of the house (something that was long overdue). With this Remington you can use it in your hand or attach it to the pole extended. In hand works fine for me- made very quick work out of all my trimming, but I couldn't use it on the pole- too heavy for me to handle at that distance. I simply don't have the shoulder muscles for it.

I still have great fun chopping off all the branches and then hacking them up into small peices. I'll be throwing branches and leaves away in the green waste pickup for weeks to come- but that is easy enough since they are all chopped to size now.

I like mine so much that I also bought their cordless pole saw. And it works slick, too.

It was Bland and Decker's new cordless rechargable trimmer/edger. I got one myself after our discussion on list. I love it- you just put it back on the charger when you are done and it's always ready to go.

I know there was a discussion here last summer about the
virtues of some brand of trimmer/edger, but I can't remember
which. I think I have persuaded my DH to get one. I really
can't do the job with scissors any more. He is such a technophobe - had one once that he couldn't make work
right, so has refused to have one ever since. Of course
he doesn't do the edging, either.
