Mine are in full sun, plain ol' desert dirt (very little organic matter, a
bit alkaline), and they got watered maybe once every couple weeks last
summer. I bought them mail-order last year, something like two-inch pots,
and they shot up to 3' high and maybe 2' wide the first year. It was a
little alarming actually. I was expecting them to slow down this year.
I also bought a desert willow (chilopsis linearis) for the same garden area,
just because the catalog claimed it had better blooms than the ordinary
type, and it showed up as a four inch stick. The thing got up to 6' tall its
first year. I sure wish I had that kind of luck with everything I plant, but
I guess it just shows what can happen when you aren't trying to fight the
climate.

I have two plants and wish they would grow. I've had them a number of
years, and they look about the size they were when I planted them. Could
the ground be too rich? Or maybe there's just too much competition from
surrounding plants or too little direct sun.
