Could be it'll do fine there. I've seen them growing in the Simi Valley [California], which is not exactly subtropical, so maybe it's a matter of opportunity rather than climate. They are quite popular here, in spite of being deciduous and not much of a shade tree even in summer.

Well, there is this tree in Beaufort, planted next to a single wide trailer, near a highway, and EVERY year people ask me what it is. It has these enormous clusters of lavender blooms. I think it may be a Jacaranda now that I've seen yours and I forgot about them until now. I could be completely wrong, but there is not another tree like it in Beaufort. I always mean to take a picture to send you guys for ID. Point is, where it is is a nice little hot microclimate. Maybe.......?
And I'd love some seeds as always.

It's got lots of blooms for a first-timer, Andrea. If it sets any seeds, I'll send you some. But you're likely right about it being too cool there, which is too bad--it's an attractive, feathery tree even when not blooming.

I have ALWAYS wanted to plant one of those, but think it will get too cold here. They are just stunning.

The Jacaranda tree we planted 6-7 years ago has finally bloomed.
