He belongs to Pam's neighbor, and fellow "ya-ya" Pat. When Pat was out here
once she fell in LOVE with Arnold, and Arnold was just smitten with her. I
jokingly said, "well, you can have him, he drives everybody in the family
nuts" She said, "fine, I'll be up next weekend with my husband and the
truck. I was stunned. She was SERIOUS. So...my husband was fine with it.
It was his bird. Parrots are like having a two year old...forEVER. They
will outlive you. I have six kids and a ton of other animals. I cannot
devote that much undivided attention to one bird. But Pat has the time and
the energy. That bird goes with her EVERYWHERE. Her husband makes him
oatmeal in the morning. They take him down to the Tasty Freeze for fries
when he goes for burgers. He is just ROTTEN now. I'm glad he has a good
home. One of my favorite memories of Arnold was the day I had to take him in
to get his wings and toenails trimmed. I was at Quick Trip for gas and had
to go in to pay (and I wasn't about to leave him in the car unsupervised.
They can tear up leather or fabric in a heartbeat) so I walk into the store
with Arnold on my hand and the whole store comes to a stop. You can hear
your socks drop it's so quiet in there. I look around for a second,
eyeballs glancing back and forth, figuring "oh, they just don't see this
everyday..." and Arnold pipes up with "SSSShhhhhhhut up...SHUT UP, SHUT
UP!!!" "Shut up Arnold!" and everybody starts laughing. The kids would
walk by his cage when he was screaming and say "shut up Arnold" so he picked
that up. One of his favorite things to say.
