Kitty, do the leaves in any way resemble those of your other Japanese maple cultivars? I realize your seedling will not be genetically the same, but you might be able to detect a "family resemblance". My guess it is an Acer palmatum of some sort rather than Acer japonicum which is the full moon maple, but many times referred to a the Japanese maple (it is the one I have).

25-30 years ago I bought 4 Japanese maples – two uprights (one limped along & died a few yrs ago) and two of a dwarf nature.  The surviving upright is in a reasonably good location and going gangbusters right now.  Of the short ones, Autumn Moon hasn’t fared too well because the location isn’t good, but it’s still there and I fear it’s way too late to try moving it. Orangeola has done immensely well – it’s like the Blob. Now taller than I, it’s a great hideout for the cats.

If you like the seedling it is of value. Only one way to find out about it. Grow it on and see what you end up with, how it performs and looks. It will have the advantage of not being a graft.
