I read once (in a Smithsonian Magazine article, I think) that if hummingbirds were the size of robins, it would not be safe to enter the garden!

Pam, I've had them do that, too - it's like they are checking you out
- nose to nose with a hummer is quite an experience:-)  Their wings
make such a loud noise at close range.

Wendy - that's great! Mine have finally flown South and I miss them
every night feasting on the salvias. There was one female (duller
coloring) that used to come hover about an inch from my face and

at me for a few minutes and then go about her necter collecting. It
