No. Saline nose drops are frequently recommended for small children, according to DH (also a pediatrician).

I've got to put my 2 cents in here. I had surgery for deviated septum (

generally screwed up sinuses). The ENT doc who did the surgery Prescribed
this exact activity for months after the surgery (once I'd healed of
course)
to help keep that area clean and prevent infection. It is entirely
uncomfortable- but it works VERY well. I also still do this any time I am
catching a cold, have allergies, or generally have a stuffy nose. It will
actually prevent sinus infections. You will also be amazed at the weird
way
the water gets "trapped" in your sinus if you don't tilt your head forward
to let it back out. OK- kind of gross, but the truth- this is way you do
it

in the shower.  Make sure you use warm salty water- mildly less
uncomfortable.  It takes some getting used to the idea of purposefully
sniffing water up your nose.

That's an old fashioned trick our family doctor used to prescribe. Not

most pleasant thing to do, but it does work.
