Donna, from things you've written over the years, I'd guess you get an
inordinate amount of rainfall and/or your land is low and/or doesn't drain
well.    A brief watering in at planting time won't add much water overall.
Bulbs will rot if you have standing water or soggy soil where they've been
planted at any time.
