Kitty: Whew! Thought there for a moment you had had another one of those
"senior moments"! Okay, now that I know you celebrate 2 nation's
holidays, I will make no more comments when I see something like
this...thanks for the explanation!!

Melody, my sisiter lives in Alberta. Today is the Canadian
Thanksgiving.

How extra thoughtful of MaryRose to mail popcorn
balls to serviceman!

Sounds like Halloween is a lot of fun in
your neck of the woods. Of
course, too, having your own kids spreads
out the work and enjoyment of
all the decorating. I've decided to
give my Cmas tree to my niece. She
needs a new one to replace the
old-old one I gave her that her cat sort
of finished up. I've decided
to scale down. After all, no one sees my
inside decorations but me,
unless it is my turn to have the family Cmas.
And even then, my
family amounts to my sister and her husband and their
daughter with
her boyfriend. My nephew is away in the service.

This doesn't
mean I do away with it entirely. I still hang wreaths and
other
things. I have a whole collection of Dean Griff snow animals and,
of
course, I hang a big stocking for each cat. But my house is small
and
a tree takes up a lot of room and a lot of time to put up and
take down.
And Megan will enjoy it far more.

Kitty
>
Huh? Tomorrow is Thanksgiving??? Kitty...have you been into the
catnip?
> Today is Columbus Day...you're about 5 weeks early for the
other. LOL!
> Unless you have one of those families that celebrates
holidays on it's
> own schedule?????
>
>
> re: holiday
decorating...it is something we get into really big for both
>
Halloween and Christmas...our little town usually has a contest for
each
> holiday to see who can put up the best display. Plus we have
one lady
> who believes in decorating for the fall/winter holidays
like she is
> related to the Griswalds from the Vacation
movies...matter of fact,
> around this time of year, that is how her
place is referred to by
> everyone in town, as in "You wanna go see
what the Griswalds have put up
> now??" My husband and kids and I
love to decorate for halloween...we
> have a 10 foot wide spider web
that we cover in glow in the dark
> web
bing, complete with giant spiders; a graveyard with bones, spooky
>
music, and lots & lots of other stuff. And Trick or Treat in our town
is
> a hoot!!!! Even the parents dress up in costume to go with their
kids
> and a few of the homeowners have little mini-haunted yards
with cool
> visual and sound effects and scary things...We have a
neighbor lady who
> has been making popcorn balls for about 40 years
and the kids who are
> now adults with kids and grandkids of their
own make it a special
> highlight of the holiday to stop at
MaryRose's and collect their popcorn
> balls. She also mails them to
kids in the service so they won't miss out
> while they are away from
home. And you should see Christmas here...it's
> amazing!
>
>
We're going to get started on our Halloween decorating this week, as
a
> way for the kids to relax after school each day as they have
>
standardized testing (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) all day every day
this
> week and will need something fun to do after school.
>
> Yes, several problems came up including the flu putting him in
the
> hospital.

I used to decorate a little for Halloween, but
recently
> got rid of the last
of it. Halloween just isn't what it
was. When we
> were kids we'd be out 3
nights from 6 to almost 10.
Now it's
> scheduled one night 5-7 and the kids
can't get anywhere
til at least
> 5;30 cuz they have to wait for parents to
get home
from work. I still
> enjoy it though - sans decorations. I buy
up
toys, books, and stuff
> on sale or clearance throughout the
year, then set up
a table outside
> and they get to pick what
t
hey want. Whoopie cushions,
matchbox cars,
> mardi gras beads,
stuffed animals, slinkies, fake tatoos.
It's
> fun.

As a
child in Chicago we always drove to the "doctor's
> houses" to see
the
decorated houses at Christmas. When I got this
> house I
decided mine would
be the decorated one. I love coming home
> to
Christmas lights. I used to do
the roof line and everything, but
>
when they put up the new gutters it made
it more difficult to get
up
> there, plus the roof was soft (got that replaced
this
summer), so I
> gave the lights away. I still do the porch, over
the
garage and the
> arbor though. I use the dusk timers so the
lights are on
when I
> arrive home from work.

How about you
all? anyone else decorate
> for the holidays? - oops!
just
remembered! Tomorrow is Thanksgiving,
> gotta call my
sister.

Kitty

----- Original Message -----
>
From:
