Re: Sambucus "Black Beauty & Black Lace"

Wow... that does sound like it is going to be beautiful.
I am not sure where I would put a new shrub that gets that big but I may
have to find a place. Do you have your Sambucus in some shade? I put the 2 I planted this year in some shade because the sun gets so intense here.

We purchased cuttings of Sambucus 'Sutherlands Gold' for the nursery a
couple of years ago. It looks really pretty next to the dark varieties.
Next year we will be getting Physocarpus 'Summer Wine' (Ninebark) which I
think is a sport of Diablo and is also very dark.
I'm also excited about getting 'Little Honey' Oakleaf Hydrangea and
especially for Calycanthus x 'Venus' - an intergeneric hybrid Sweetshrub.
Chris turned me on to a good woody supplier.

I just saw a couple of pictures of these too shrubs. Wow... has anyone
seen
them yet?
Sambucus "Black Beauty" has been out since 2000 but "Black Lace" is
coming
out in 2006.
I get a newsletter from About.com Gardening Guide that has an interesting
article on "Black Foliage Shrubs to Add Color to Your Garden".
If you are interested I can forward the e-mail to you.
I love Elderberries anyway and this one looks exciting.
