Re: Say Jim...

Beans and I have been out a couple of times. It's still windy--now it's coming from the northwest, so the storm is moving away from us finally. it's sunny, with clouds only on the fringes of the horizon. But it's also coolish--high 60s, low 70s.

Beans celebrated being out with an exhibition of the rips; she raced to the top of the avocado tree and yowled like a banshee. [I knew how she felt; I just didn't have the agility to join her.]

Everything seems to be intact. The largest of the three mangos had just put out a flush of new growth before the storm and the new growth got kind of beat up, but probably not seriously damaged. The one last gourd that was way up in the giant bird of paradise was blown out, but with the dead bloom stuff it was attached to and which provided a cushion for it upon landing, so it arrived on the concrete patio unbroken.

Because this is a quasi pine forest with very tall, old trees, the yard is now covered with needles, pine cones, tillansia, dead limbs swathed in Spanish moss, and everything else southern slash pines give up in a brisk wind.

All the new citrus are unfazed. Ms Fatma's papaya still has all its fruit.

We have a huge bougainvillea that we have been training as a canopy over a walk between the front and back yards. Wilma undid some of that training, so whenever the winds go away, I'll need to deal with that.

I haven't been out to check the orchard yet. I'll do that tomorrow. I don't expect any damage, but since every storm has picked part of the black sapote crop, I'm not hopeful that Wilma left any fruits for us this year.

Now that you have had some time to walk around the
plantation, is everything ok after Wilma?
