We'll be having our first frost before too long so I got the greenhouse
ready for winter occupation. And then I started moving plants. I guess I
should have realized that during my summer preoccupation with the harvest
that just like the rest of the ornamentals, the patio plants weren't getting
any attention from me either. Their automatic watering though worked just
fine.
So I pulled this pot with a variegated abutilon out into the lawn, having a
major battle with the black sweet potato vine and the scented geranium in
order to get it loose, knocked over the cannas as well, and discovered the
thing was something like seven feet tall and had leaves only on the outer
edges of many many tangled branches. Not incredibly attractive without all
the other masking vegetation. So I took a number of cuttings just in case
and then hacked it down, it is now a 4 foot tall collection of sticks with
just a few bits of foliage left. And then the pot broke as I was moving it
so I had to repot it, but it was pretty much the same size pot.
I haven't done anything this radical to it before, do you think it will
rebound? The remaining leaves looked perky this morning. Or should I put my
efforts into the cuttings?
