Webster:
Range: 2 : a cooking stove that has an oven and a flat top with burners or heating elements

Stove: 1 a : a portable or fixed apparatus that burns fuel or uses electricity to provide heat (as for cooking or heating)

So I guess range is more specific.

i always thought the cooktop was the range, the oven was the oven, and the whole shebang was the stove.
