Okay. Found the name of my wild iris rose... er... iris. Iris setosa "Canadensis"--don't know if it's rhizomatous or what. Forest Farm lists one they call Alaska iris. May have to order one or two to plant among the lingonberries.

BTW, these are bulbous Iris. Sounds like you're more accustomed to the rhizomatous types. Then there's the Siberians which have dense fibrous roots.Kitty neIN, Zone 5 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitty" <kmrsy@comcast.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2008 8:41 PM Subject: [CHAT] irisFor the most part they tend to go by the cultivar name, hopefully with a description of type next to them. What you would be looking for would bemostly Reticulata types.Iris histrioides 'Katherine Hodgkin' is a reticulata type. And there's Iris bucharica, and Iris danfordiae and Iris tuberosa. Here, check these out:http://www.vanengelen.com/catview.cgi?_fn=Product&_category=Iris scroll past the Dutch Iris (they're nice too, but are taller & bloom later.) It's not too late to order, but do it soon. Got a binomial? When I was at L'ance aux Meadows, I took some pictures of native iris that were just gorgeous. I got it IDed byiris enthusiasts and posted the pix on Dave's Garden. I've still gotthe picture, but no binomial--and I can't find it at Dave's. Alas. I'dreally love to have one or two of those, but it may be too warm for them here [which my bones tell me is a silly conjecture]. I picked up some "purple" iris from freecycle a few monthsback, mostly because we didn't have any iris and they do extremelywell here. And they've now all got new growth, which is gratifying. On Oct 22, 2008, at 10:57 AM, holmesbm@usit.net wrote:My twice-blooming iris is blooming...nice addition for fall.[Original Message] From: james singer <islandjim1@comcast.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Date: 10/21/2008 12:47:23 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] ABCsPleased so far, but no blooms yet. They're all up--and that's muchbetter luck than I had in Florida. On Oct 21, 2008, at 8:53 AM, Judy Browning wrote:Are you pleased with your saffron crocus? Mine are where I can see them every time I go to the front door. My plan is to spread them around. So far I've only managed to get a few back in the ground here. Someone always seems to stop by just after I've cleaned that bed, while I still have a few corms in my pocket. I share them &don't get any replanted here. I'll vote on election day. ----- Original Message ----- From: "james singer"<islandjim1@comcast.netTo: "Garden Chat" <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Monday, October 20, 2008 12:25 PM Subject: [CHAT] ABCsAutumn leaves: glorious right now.
