Interesting plant; nice flower. I don't ever recall seeing it [in bloom or otherwise] although it appears to be adapted to a wide range of zones.

Yes, I harvest the seed pods and grow new ones to give to people or fill upthe occasional hole in the beds. On 10/11/09, Jesse Bell <justjess01@gmail.com> wrote:Bringing my plants indoors today. It is COLD. 36 degrees this morning. GROSS. My jade tree has produced so MANY offspring, and I have 4-5 large pots of them, and two pots of young startings. Gotta find homes for them all. My hib from David and another hib that I bought are being brought in. My starfish cactus that Jim gave me (that bloomed four times this summer) is being brought in. My pencil cactus and chicks and hens are coming in too. I know you can leavethe chicks and hens out there, but I put them in a shallow terra cottapot and I'm not sure they could take the winter here. I think we are going to have a bad one. Pam, that Texas Star Hibiscus that you gave me looks like it has seed pods on them? Is that right? This is the first year they have bloomed, and they are beautiful. I'm gathering my datura seeds andmarigold seeds, as well as my moon flower. Gonna TRY to get out thereand gather some zinnia seeds if time permits. Trees are turning - dogwoods have been turning for a month, but others are bright now. I've found new homes for most of my large potted plants - we just can't handle them any longer. I had a camellia that I grew from seed my father sent me before he died in 1980. He had a large collection of camellias in Alabama. He said this might be something special - I never got to discuss it with him, but it seems to have a drooping habit - branches curve down and the plant is compact. Anyway, I gave it to a friend who has a conservatory. I gave my large jade plant that was given to me by a late District Director in 1988 when she moved to Calif. to the mansion house at Lasdon Park & Arboretum. They have taken a couple of my large plants before. Since that is the office of the FGCNYS District, it seemed appropriate to give it to them. I have offered a large Sprengerei (sp.?) that I grew from seed a number ofyears ago to a neighbor. She hasn't picked it up yet, but that's morenearly hardy to a light frost than other things. I hate to see my container plantings go, but that's what happens this time of year. At least I found good homes for some of them. The trees just started to turn in the last 48 hours. Crazy weather.Planned on putting away all the summer things but due to the rain allweek,it is just too wet. Maybe tomorrow. So instead I slept all day, no motivation. DH has a bad cold so I am hoping I am not coming down with it. Had to put the lemon and lime in their little greenhouse and crank up the humidifier--we use the humidifier to heat thegreenhouse. It seems to work... at least it did last year through subfreezingtemps and light snow storms. Trees, maples anyway, are starting turn; dogwood's been red for a month or so--first breezy day and it'll likelybe ahatrack. Interesting thing about the maples: one across the circle diednottoo long after it leafed out in spring; now the neighbors have one thatlooks like tapiola. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT-- Jesse R.
