Mimosas are pretty, but they do make a mess.  I  did see a chocolate variety once though.  Going to look that up.

i also just found a Chinese fringe tree that sounds pretty good.

Apparently desert willows don't like clay.  My front might still be ok, since it is a raise bed (walled off the slope of the lawn toward the street).  Hmmmm
