Re: colchicum.

Cathy, not to worry.  The Colchicums that are blooming here ar not the ones
you bought, speciosum.  Those coming up here now are C. agrippinum, C.
'Jochem Hof', and C. 'Zephyr'.  C. speciosum will start closer to the end of
the month or in October here in Zone 5.

Bonnie's location is warmer which may have triggered them sooner.  Sometimes
Colchicum bloom a little later their first season.  Another factor is
planting depth.  If you planted more deeply than Bonnie, your sprouts have
further to travel.

Regarding dormancy, you received your bulbs in their dormant state and they
actually bloom while dormant.  They'll wake up again in spring to put out
leaves.  BTW, these were exceptionally large bulbs.  I had also ordered 15
of the same species from another supplier and they were reasonable size but
much smaller than what you got.  Interestingly, all these colchicum came
from the same place in Oregon.
