Re: RE: Holli's Pond - new TN invasives

They do fine here, usually planted in high shade.

In my zone 5 Butterfly bush struggles. I have lost them some years, and some
years they do well. Not really dependable. It seems to depend on the
winter. A
really hard winter will do them in, especially if followed by a dry summer.
I have
only had one seedling in many years, and that didn't survive. This will never
become an invasive in this area - in this climate.

Well here in zone 5, I have one that does great.... but no babies that I
ever found in the 5 years.... Have tried a few more in different colors,
but they never make it past the first season. No idea why, just what
happens here, so far.

When you mentioned Butterfly Bush, Buddleia davidii, it sort of
brought
a smile. I tried growing those here in my zone 5 garden back in the
early 90s and they struggled and died. But now at the display gardens
I
see that they grow extremely well and, you're right , babies - big,
fast-growing babies - are popping up all over. I'm wondering if this
has
something to do with the global warming that many seem to this is
non-existant.
