Re: OT- just to share

Thanks everyone!

Yes, I am a big believer in physical therapy. They know how to get you
to use/strengthen certain muscles again without re-injuring yourself or
doing too much too fast which can also have side effects. Of course the
person has to be willing to work with them and not just show up and
complain.

In my mothers case, they came up with another way for her to actually be
able to stand up from a sitting position. They used simple but effective
ways of getting some movement out of her hands and shoulders in the
beginning and gradually moved her into being able to eat on her own with
a fork and knife. They have succeeded in getting her muscles back to
being usable. She still has a long way to go, but has made great
progress in the last month.

Having gone thru physical therapy myself twice, I know it isn't easy.
Without it, I probably couldn't walk today or use my left wrist...both
of which the doctors told me I would be lucky to get 10 percent usage
out of..... I made it to 80 percent and feel it was all due to great
therapists and my determination. I am not perfect, but most people don't
realize my limitations.

That's great news, Donna! I know it's been a great worry and
burden for you to have her be so incapacitated. Do you feel
that the physical therapy has helped? I'll keep you both in
my prayers.

As some of you know, my mother got ill back in March. After finding the

For those who don't know- we live in a subdivision both have ranch
homes, lives next door to me, so the distance isn't great- but she did
manage to walk here without any help.
