I was afraid you'd say that! Actually, there is only bermuda grass in the back yard- don't know why- maybe because the front gets alot of tree shade. Anyway- half of the grass, bermuda and other is dying in the back yard anyway due to the grub infestation we have going on also. I think eitherway we are just going to start over and redo that back lawn- it also isn't sloped well for drainage, it is too high next to the back patio so that water gets trapped on the patio. So- what kind of grass would be good to grow here?? I noticed yesterday that Highcountry Gardens sell some kind of low water usage fescue- but not sure if it would be good here. The back yard is on the east side of the house, and has some tree shade too. So, part sun/part shade.

My advise would be to learn to live with the Bermuda grass. You'll probably never get rid of it, unless you pave the area. The roots go half-way to China and it seeds around like crazy--so even if you get rid of your but a neighbor doesn't, you'll get it right back again. City of Phoenix has an ordinance that requires home owners to mow their lawns to a height where Bermuda seed heads will be cut off before they bloom--hasn't stopped the Bermuda grass but has made it look better tended.

Have any of you used a sod cutter to remove your existing lawn? Just curious how hard they are to use. It finally came to my attention today that my back yard is inundated with bermuda grass- how lovely! So, I started ripping it out, only to eventually realize that there was way more in more places than I could reasonable rip out, and at some point it just makes sense to replace the sod entirely.
Any advise it welcome!
