Re: another taxing question

I'd be inclined to go with Frangula alnus because RHS used to show Rhamnus frangula but now lists it as Frangula alnus in the 2006 Plant Finder. If they changed it, they must have been confident in the change.

In 1995 RHS listed 4 species under the genus heading of Frangula showing that all 4 were properly named as Rhamnus
R. frangula
R. californicus
R. caroliniana
R. rupestris

Since that time taxonomists have reversed SOME of that.
R. frangula [as F. alnus] and R. caroliniana have been returned to the Frangula genus along with another Rhamnus, R. latifolia, now named F. azorica. I guess there's enough difference from the others and similarities to each other in these 3 species for them to have their own genus.

BTW, I have 4 Fernleaf Buckthorns; just transplanted one yesterday. Now I have to make a new label!

well when I bought it in 2004- the tag said...

Rhamnus frangula 'Aspleniifolia'

So do let me know if you find it changed elsewhere....I will update.
Sigh, I wish they wouldn't do this....seems any name you call a plant
might not be right anymore...
