Well, the first time I found them they were on seedling plants that I was growing on. I figured they'd easily suck the life out of such young plants. On the mature plant today, I'm not that worried. It is a strong grower and it is late in the season. But baby plants are a different thing. You have to protect them.

ME TOO...it's a shiny, orange, funky looking aphid that is all over myasclepias every year...except this year. THIS year my asclepias didn't makeit. They looked like they had some kind of powdery mildew on them andwithered away. Too much rain I guess. I just sprayed my flowers down with water and hit them pretty hard and they'd go away for awhile, and then come back. They didn't seem to kill the plant or do a lot of harm, so I just letthem be. Figured they'd be ladybug food. On 9/16/08, Theresa G. <macycat3@sbcglobal.net> wrote:I have a funky bright orange aphid that totally covers my asclepias everyyear. Do nothing this late in the game? I'd like to prevent them coming back next year. I found them earlier this year suckingthe life out of some small plants and killed them off. but now they haveliterally covered every inch of a larch Heliopsis Loraine Sunshine. Itriedto spray, but I now I'll never get them all. Should I just cut Lorainedowncompletely to head off the possibility that these bugs will lay eggs ifleft to long on the plant? http://www.flickr.com/photos/kmrsy/2863431106/ HELP!!!
