Re: Different types of mycorrhizae??

>Sharon,

It's most logical, of course, to get Elaine to clarify some of this
for you, but she is often difficult to reach. She is back from
Australia now, and may respond to an email. I referred to notes from
some of her ezines and earlier presentations, and I think you are
looking at, not the mycorrhizal activity, but bacterial dominated
soils vs fungal dominated soils, and the corresponding ratio of
fungal to bacterial biomass. The perennials/shrubs require
fungally-dominated soils (that is, where fungal hyphae are not
disturbed by tilling and cultivation). Grassland/agricultural soils (
also those supporting vegetables/annuals) are bacterial dominated.

She discusses much of this at length in her first ezine located at:
http://www.soilfoodweb.com/ezinearchives/issue1.txt

I'd like to hear what Jeff Ball says about reasons for not rototilling.

Good luck!
