Re: Gardeners vs consumers

I do not have significant quantities of experiences, only 20 separate 
individuals, but I suspect that income has something to do with how deeply 
involved my clients have been with their gardens.  The least involvement was 
shown from a family who spent approx. $25-30 thousand per year on maintenance 
and a little planting.  However the least enjoyment came from people who paid 
a little attention, but very little and wanted the site to seem as if 
vigorous efforts to control all plants had only ceased an hour before.  It 
seems as if most Americans are still trying to tame the frontier as if the 
frontier were in eastern New Jersey.

I think most people want the horticultural equivalent of a TV Dinner or even 
delivery from Domino's.  Our national attitude toward the process of garden 
care is similar to how we feel about cooking. Julia is in retirement and 
Stouffer's is in ascendancy.

Martha can cook, but I have never felt that I wanted to try her recipes; has 
anyone made any of Martha's recipes?
