Re: Gardeners vs consumers

Hello Barbara,
I am not into the landscaping aspect, so I am sure you know far more
than I on that subject. However, I do own and operate a specialized nursery
that is by appointment only, web site and catalog. Native and non-native
shade perennials. Hopefully with something different from the 'normal" run
on occasion. I have "plant people" and "gardeners" come to visit here, not
statistics. I am sure those numbers everyone pays close attention to are
important and may even be indicators to you for operations, but I find
people who love plants are just that... no matter the income level or
necessarily educational level. Truly. First question of any business is how
may I serve.
Both my partner and I enjoy cooking, but when we get very busy around
here we do, on occasion, have a (gasp!) TV dinner or stop at a mega store
and pick up dinner that is ready to serve. We also have Julia and Martha's
books here that we refer to, along with some excellent male chefs. Martha
tends to un-necessarily complicate her advice on cooking is my opinion. But,
here again, Martha would not be so successful if she were not serving a
need. I happen to be a great admirer of hers.
People are seldom one thing or another. Mostly a wild mix of it all.
What makes everyone so fascinating, providing material for us to write.
