Re: native plants

Hello Gloria,
    Webster says:
indigenous...or living naturally in a particular region.
native... 4... or originating in a particular place: (syn) indigenous
But you probably knew that. As a writer and as a gardener/nursery owner I tend to use "native" the most, for it is the most common in use (in this region, anyway). More people will recognize the word native than indigenous.
I believe the most common parameters set for the term "native plant" is what was growing in your area before European settlement of the U.S.... Columbus. (not My parameter)
I would walk a careful path when writing. This area of gardening is super charged emotionally on both sides of the issue of native and/or/versus non-native, or exotic.

Dear list members,
I am working on an article about Native Plants and am searching for a definition/interpretation for the terms "indigenous" and "native".
I would appreciate any assistance with this clarification of terms.
thanks,
