Re: a question I need help with: vinegar as a herbicide?

About using vinegar to "off" unwanted plants.

Vinegar in generous quantity in relation to the size of the plant is toxic to
almost everything common, but it works by damaging tissue and temporarily
depressing the pH of the soil. If there is enough plant tissue left
undamaged to regenerate the plant and the soil receives sufficient water, the
line "I'm baaack" applies Vinegar is probably least effective with
dandelions growing between concrete slabs.

If there are weeds in paving even a burning stick can produce enough heat to
fatally dehydrate the top of most things. Call or write to the Worcester
County Horticultural Society in Boylston, Mass for their experiences with
using a torch for weeds in paving.
