Re: Native gardening for beneficial insects?


I couldn't agree with Marge more. Eliminate or reduce the pesticides you use 
and you'll attract insects. I think natives may do a better job of serving as 
food sources for native bugs because both have spent centuries serving each 
other's needs.

IMO, gardening without the use of heavy duty pesticides will

encourage all wildlife, including the so-called beneficial insects

appropriate to your climate.  Has little to do with the type of

plants you plant except in that some are more attractive to some

insects than others, either as food sources or for the development of

larvae.  What is important is allowing nature to reach a balance,

which it will do, given time and freedom from massive pesticide use.
