Margaret, you are very accurate about the American military.  My godparents 
were regular Navy for twenty years or a little more and it seemed that the 
navy would ship their dirty Kleenex unhesitatngly.  They spent 3 years 
dispensing their household goods when they finally wanted to retire 
completely from everything.  My father sent toys from Asia to his children at 
the end of W.W.II, they had all sorts of stuff which appeared thirty years 
later.
