Fairy gardens were popular in Australia when I lived there several years ago. 
They appealed particularly to grandparents who entertained their 
grandchildren. The gardens varied considerably, some incorporating objects 
related to or from fairies, and miniature furnitures to make them 
comfortable, both natural plant materials and manmade. I have slides of 
several gardens if you're interested.
