Doreen (and all)
I do that as well and occasionally get interesting hits. I have a more curious problem though. The Newspaper that I write for started a second paper several years ago that I was unaware of. Sure enough they include my column in that paper and have done so without my consent and without additional remuneration. To add insult to injury...they are also including my registered trade mark which is part of the column. I've been writing this column for over 20 years, have a great editor and whenever I've asked for a raise I've gotten it.
So here's the dilemma. Do I tell them they must pay be for the use of the column in the second paper...which I'm sure they will refer to as just an 'edition' of the main paper even though it has a different masthead and name? Do I risk loosing the column that I currently write? Do I pull out all together and sue them for breach of contract and trademark infringement (of which legal notice must first be given to the offender) or...do I just sit back and be satisfied that the column is so good that they've decided to include it in their other paper...oops, I mean edition.
And..to complicate matters just a little bit...they now have a Spanish edition and have hinted that they'd carry a translation of the column in it.
Yes, I do have a contract...it's 9 years old and I doubt if it's still in force...but it only gives them one time use.
Just interested in everyone's take on this.
