Re: Googling Self

People are actually using articles word for word? I often write something like "Thomas Ogren reports..." (quoting myself here) then a paraphrase of one of your statements. I think that's fair use, isn't it? I discovered some time ago that one should use every permutation of a name to find all of the references. You should also use initials.

I Google myself too, as I suspect most writers do now. And I too often find websites and so on that are using articles of mine without my permission. But I like to see this because in my case it is just that much more free PR. I can't afford to advertise so free PR is the ticket.
My theory is that for book writers at least, you can't get too much PR. The really only bad PR is no PR and every time my name or the title allergy free gardening gets into print or on the radio or on TV, it is all good.
For fun I Googled Doreen, Andrew, myself, and Graham....and Grahm Rice is putting us all to shame as far as Google hits.....no doubt the result of much hard work and lots of good writing.
A tip on this: I discovered, late, that the search engine spiders "see" Tom Ogren, Thomas Ogren, and Thomas Leo Ogren, as three different people.....thus very different numbers and results on each of these in a search. My advice would be to pick one name and stick with it.
