   But the real question I have is how to deal with folks who have stolen
   these images.  Unless they're registered with the copyright office
   beforehand, damages are much less.  And since I'm not making money on
   my images (I'm just an amateur), there really aren't any damages.

I can't speak to damages - not being an attorney - but you might consider embedding a link to your websites in the files somehow. At least that way you'd get a link to your site from each one. <g>
