Re: [CBHL] Best regional garden books
Hi, Sally!
I have a few favorites, which I don't think have been mentioned.
The New England Gardener's Book of Lists by Karan Davis Cutler. For the list obsessed, it's a great starting place to figure out what to do when, why, by technique, etc. Any way you like a list, she provides it for us
New England Gardener's Guide by Jacquie Heriteau and Holly Hunter Stonehill. This is a plant encyclopedia focused on our area. It's a great book for beginning gardeners as it gets into just enough info to help the gardener be successful without overwhelming them with too much data. Also has general info (before the plant pages) on techniques, general gardening how-to, etc. These writers also have published Month by Month Gardening in New England. For the planner in each of us, this book is useful to get a handle on what to do when. It also explains the whys and wherefores of each activity/event. In my role as a garden advisor at a Litchfield nursery, when I consult with beginning gardeners, and in my work at the local extension office I recommend these last two books most frequently.
Have a Happy Easter!
