Re: [CBHL] Best regional garden books

I garden in upstate NY in one of the colder regions (Zone 4) of the state. I
have read the two NY-only spinoffs of books that Lorraine mentions, the New
York Gardener's Guide and Month-by-Month Gardening in New York. I found them
both unsatisfying precisely because they were aimed at rank beginners. More
details here<http://www.coldclimategardening.com/2006/03/07/new-york-gardening-books/>.

I have found the following books to be more helpful:

*A Gardener's Guide to Frost: Outwit the Weather and Extend the Spring and
Fall Seasons (Hardcover) *
by Philip Harnden<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=Philip%20Harnden&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-3621842-5637561>

*Growing Shrubs and Small Trees in Cold Climates *
by Nancy Rose<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=Nancy%20%20Rose&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-3621842-5637561>,
Don Selinger<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=Don%20%20Selinger&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-3621842-5637561>,
John Whitman<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=John%20%20Whitman&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-3621842-5637561>

*Growing Perennials in Cold Climates (Hardcover) *
by Mike Heger<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=Mike%20%20Heger&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-3621842-5637561>,
John Whitman<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author-exact=John%20%20Whitman&rank=-relevance%2C%2Bavailability%2C-daterank/104-3621842-5637561>

I found these books to be more "meaty" than the ones aimed at my state.
