Yes, my tongue was in my cheek, but I was also making a point: who knew?
When I started my blog, blogging was just another way geeks amused
themselves when they weren't staying up all night writing code. People were
actually donating money to Blogger so they could afford another computer and
expand their service. Google ads hadn't been invented yet.

I have an interesting story to relate. Caren, the moderator for Garden
Voices, told me, "I tell everyone about Garden Voices but non-bloggers just
don't get it. I even wrote a proposal to the Home Gardeners School
outlining a class I could teach on garden blogging. They didn't even have
the courtesy to reply to me. We bloggers seem to be a breed apart!"
But good for you making your blog work for you. Early adopters of

I am making more money from my print writing than from my blog, but my
Google ad revenue is earned without continuing effort on my part. It took me
more than a year to accumulate enough earnings to warrant them sending me a
check. It looks like it will take one-third that time to get a second check.
(For those who don't know, Google doesn't pay you until your balance tops
$100.) Garden Voices sends a lot of traffic my way. Get yourself listed,
Doug!
