Re: Peat


Whew! Thank you, Jeff!

I was gearing up to respond to this subject when I received your message.
You present the argument far better than I would have!

But, I would like to add my voice of support to Jeff's argument. I have
spent time looking at this question as well and have also spoken to people
who convinced me that the bogs are being renewed. As for coir--it may be
better for some applications, but it's terrible if you work in soil blocks
rather than pots. I did the research about peat as a consequence of working
for someone who wanted me to use coir as a substitute. In my experience,
coir is totally unacceptable in a soil block. Honestly, I don't even like it
in a small plug or channel tray. I don't like the way it sheds water and am
guessing that tiny root hairs can't creep into its crevices in the same way
they do in peat moss.
