Re: GWA

Well, we've got a good start; certainly, the opinions are divided and
passionately held.
I am aware that GWA and GWL are two separate entities and I fully expect
quite a few folks are affiliated with both groups.
When I spoke about relevance I was not referring solely to job referrals,
assignments, money, etc. I was thinking more along the lines of what I
derive from the GWL- when we ocassionally get into discussions about
writing. GWA seems to be a logical networking organisation- not necessarily
in Trenton, Ont. however. And, as such, you would get out what you put in.

>From Doug Green: ..."Don't expect anybody to "officially" respond on this
list unless they do

Doug , you hit the nail on the head for me. Here we are, discussing the GWA
in an international forum that is comprised of folks who do what the GWA is
supposed to support. It would be silly of me to think that GWA Corporate is
not aware of this thread. I was hoping to hear from them in this forum- to
me this is a perfect opportunity to sell what it is they are offering to a
very refined/defined demographic. (If I were to put on my retailer's hat,
this is the kind of audience that costs a lot of money to find and I would
be fair to drooling.)

Like others on this list, I belong to other organisations, too. One is
Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association. We do for our green
industry what the GWA is (I think) doing for the garden writers' and
associated professions. There is one major difference of which I am aware:
L.O. actively seeks out new members, addresses any forum it can, responds (
almost always diplomatically) to any queries for information...in short, it
will avail itself of any opportunity to sell itself. (We give a lot of bang
for the buck and we are relevant to our members.) I'm proud to be a member
of L.O. and I will unabashedly tell folks that. I also know that if we are
being queried in a forum such as this, both the Board and the Executive
Director would be involved.

Testimonials aside (and I truly appreciate the time taken and sincerity
shown in them) I need some sort of "official" response from the GWA in
order to re-up.

Without a doubt, though, you gwl folks are humourous, acerbic and witty all
at the same time.
